Recap Europeana 2025
The 3D-4CH team brought hands-on training and fresh momentum to the conversation on 3D digitisation in cultural heritage. From tools to training, our workshop at Europeana 2025 explored how we’re empowering heritage professionals across Europe with the skills they need for a sustainable digital future.
Empowering the Cultural Heritage Sector with 3D Training and Tools
The energy at Europeana 2025 was palpable — and the 3D-4CH team was proud to be part of this vibrant gathering of heritage professionals, technologists, and innovators. Held in Warsaw under the theme "Preserve, Protect, Reuse", this year’s conference brought together Europe’s cultural community to share strategies for a sustainable digital future.
As part of the official programme, 3D-4CH hosted a dedicated workshop titled:
Sculpting Digital Skills – 3D-4CH Capacity Building for Heritage Professionals
Thursday, 12 June 2025 | Room C
Presented by Alexandru Stan (IN2) and Kate Fernie (CARARE)
Building Capacity, Together
Our session spotlighted one of the most pressing needs in the cultural heritage field today: capacity building in 3D digitisation and data management. Whether it’s capturing historic buildings, sculptural masterpieces, or archaeological artefacts — equipping professionals with the skills to work with 3D data is essential to long-term preservation and reuse.
Attendees explored:
- Training pathways for heritage professionals, including the 3D-4CH workshops, certifications, and modular courses
- Standards and workflows that support sustainable 3D practices
- Real-world needs and challenges from museums, archives, and libraries across Europe
A Collaborative Mission
The workshop encouraged open dialogue and peer learning, inviting participants to share their own journeys and training needs. From experienced digital curators to newcomers in the field, everyone brought valuable insights — and helped shape a more inclusive, needs-driven approach to digital capacity building.
The result? A shared vision for a pan-European 3D competence infrastructure — one that supports institutions of all sizes and fosters cross-border collaboration.
Looking Ahead
At 3D-4CH, we believe that digital transformation in heritage is about people as much as it is about technology. This workshop was just one step in our ongoing mission to empower professionals with the skills, confidence, and community support to work with 3D content effectively and sustainably.
We extend our sincere thanks to:
- All who participated onsite and online
- Our partners across the 3D-4CH consortium
- The Europeana team and organisers for hosting such an impactful event
